The 2026 Novel Writing Challenge: Task #60

Morning all, I hope you are doing fabulously well this morning. It has been an interesting week for me with this challenge. In my writing I am at the point where Act 1 is about to roll into act 2 and so there were a few things I wanted to smooth out this week. Mostly because I veered from my original outline and had to rethink some upcoming elements and lay the base for those elements in the beginning. I think I did fairly well actually. And so more writing later. For now, we have the morning writing exercise. We are running down March but still in Character building exercises. April will bring in setting and description. But for now…

Task #60: Writing Exercise: Choose a character and once you can see them and know a little bit about them, write about their first adult friend. This is sort of a companion exercise to yesterday. Then we looked at childhood friends, but now, stick with the adult ones. This is a friend they made when they were an adult. No shared childhood memories. Just a connection as a friend. Write about how they met, why they are friends. You can even write about how their childhood self would view this person. Is this someone they would have admired when young? Or maybe avoided? Think about how their perceptions and choices may have evolved as they grew and changed.

As always, happy writing.
