The 2026 Novel Writing Challenge: Task #66

Morning all. Today is another writing day (writing scheduled through the end of May) and so as we write we have another setting/description exercise.

Task #66: Writing Exercise – While often we dwell on the places people like to go, sometimes it is interesting to look at the places they don’t visit or don’t visit without a very good reason. So today we are going to write about that. It could be a room in a house that everyone avoids. It could be a section of woods everyone is told to avoid. Or any other place, cave, haunted house, just pick a physical place. Describe the place in detail and explain why it is avoided. Are only certain people allowed to go there while everyone else is forbidden, perhaps as an element of religion? Is it the private domain of the master of the house, forbidden to all others? Was it the scene of a great tragedy everyone wants to forget or of a miraculous event everyone considers too holy to disturb? Pick your place and describe it as well as tell us why it is the way it is.

As always Happy writing.
