The 2026 Novel Writing Challenge: Task #67

Good morning everyone. While we have our writing schedule going, we are still looking at writing exercises while we write. April is all about setting. Today’s exercise seems appropriate for me given how much time I spend thinking about the weather as I ready my garden for spring.

Task #67 – Writing Exercise – Pick a place. It can be city or country, a house, an apartment, a grand estate, a fantasy castle, whatever suits your story. Now pick a day, or even a season and describe what someone would see looking out of the window on a typical morning in this typical season. Is it monsoon season where flash flood warnings are a near constant presence. Is it another year in a long and debilitating drought? Is it sunny and pleasant with shoots of green just appearing and the pollen yet to rise in allergic quantities? Write about the typical weather and appearance of the landscape on this most typical of days. Temperature, plants, humidity, write about it all in as great a detail as you can manage.

As always, happy writing.
