Upcoming Prompts for the Week of June 13th – 17th, 2022

Well it looks like we are easing into the middle of the month. Thus far June hasn’t been that bad. It has still been a little rocky but with a few exceptions it has been mostly the aftershocks of May. It is starting to feel like I can breathe again. Which is a very good feeling. So as I start to slide back into a normal operating schedule and summer kicks into gear, let’s see what writing prompts we’ve got coming up. Ready?

Monday, June 13th: The machine began to shake and the stench of burning electronics snaked through the air.

Tuesday, June 14th: Slowly the balloon inflated.

Wednesday, June 15th: The applause was deafening.

Thursday, June 16th: “Sometimes you can be a little abrasive.”

Friday, June 17th: He saw only one person.

Not a bad list all considered. Some of them look like fun. This week there were some fun ones. I have two stories out of them that i really want to pursue as full length stories. And that isn’t a bad thing. Hopefully next week will also have a few story ideas worth pursuing. Once can only hope. Until next week though, I am going to forget these sentences ever existed. Hopefully you will do the same and w can all meet back here Monday morning to kick the first one of the prompts off right. I’ll see you here.

  1. I absolutely LOVE your writing prompts – how do you come up with them? And where did you get the idea of the 15 minute novel? I’m thinking that would be a great way to get myself into the habit of writing more regularly.

    1. The writing prompts are sentences I tend to pick up in random places. I add them to cards and then at the end of November/December I pull them randomly and assign them a day. Usually by then I’ve forgotten the original context of the sentence. I started with the 15 Minute Novel because I saw how high a word count I ended up with from my year of prompts and decided to see what would happen if I focused on just one for a whole year. This is the second year I’ve done it. I learned a lot from the first year and tweaked the plan a little bit for the second one. (I came up with a simple over all outline abt. 5 sentences to keep me on track because I noticed last year’s 15 minute novel often veered way off course) And I am learning a lot from this one too. It’s actually been quite a lot of fun.
