The 2026 Novel Writing Challenge: Task #80

Morning all, another writing day and of course another writing exercise. Whether you use it in your current writing, save it for another time or use it while you are thinking about what to write is up to you. But we still have a few more days of April left and for April we are concentrating on descriptions. So…

Task #80 – Writing Exercise – A weed is just a plant in the wrong place. I’m pretty sure there are exceptions, at least I feel there are when I am fighting a particularly troublesome vine that seems to invade my garden on a routine basis. Today’s writing exercise is to write about something invasive. It can be a plant. It can be an animal. It can even be an idea or a belief. These are descriptive based exercises so describe the invasive thing, How it arrived, how it changes things, the effects of it on the things around it. Whether it is a weed choking out a favorite rose bush or an idea that is subtly shifting local attitudes towards (or against) something, dig deep and focus on all of the details.

As always, happy writing.
