The 2026 Novel Writing Challenge: Task #85

Morning everyone I hope you are having a fantastic morning and that you had a lovely weekend. We are still writing (but entering the home stretch) so we have another writing exercise. This month we are looking at dialogue. A situation will be presented below and you have to make the people involved talk to each other (if only the real world worked that way, not that I want to put words in people’s mouths I just happen to know a few people who tend to avoid conversations and the people they need to have them with when they are faced with a difficult situation. The thought of plunking them down in a room somewhere is at times very appealing).

Task #85 – Writing Exercise – A storm has caused a large tree to fall into the yards of two separate people. They need to talk about it’s removal. The tree could be from one of their yards. It could be a tree that was on city property and therefore belonged to neither of them. Responsibility for the tree could fall to one with accusations made, or it could be an amicable conversation about chainsaws and wood burning stoves. How you set it up is up to you, but at least two people need to talk about this downed tree.

As always, happy writing.
