The 2026 Novel Writing Challenge: My Task #101

Good morning I am still racing towards the end of my manuscript. I don’t know if I will fully complete he first draft before Friday, but I can see the end. It is one of those fun yet slightly frustrating things. To see the end of the story but to still have to write your way there. Still I am writing.

Some of you may notice that I am not putting the paid section with the actual writing in below. I went back through the old posts and took them out. The point of the posts is to kind of talk about how the writing is going and to share the bump and drawbacks as well as the delights of pulling a first draft together. That was always in the main posts and remains for those wanting to see the ups and downs. I put the actual writing in the paid sections to show not only the writing but the back and forth that goes on with it. I took it down because at this point there were so many sections that were altered as my story shifted about that if you were reading the sections it was pretty much unreadable. I had three lines of plot I wanted interwoven in the beginning and then I realized one of those plot lines had it’s own sub plots that needed to be dealt with and that the confines of the main plot wasn’t the right place for it, so I dropped that part, but it meant I had to go back and do triage on the first sections to remove those elements and tuck them away for a different bit of writing. I also started out in first person and then decided that did not work so I switched to 3rd, which I partially corrected.

All of which meant that while I had a clean and developing draft, the posts about the draft made it almost impossible to follow along. Hence the change. But the writing still continues and I am hoping that my draft will be complete by tomorrow. Not sure it will be, but that is okay. Onward we go.
