The 2026 Novel Writing Challenge: Task #111

Morning all. I hope your repairing of plot gaps and emotional shifts is going well. I finished the last of mine yesterday which means that today and tomorrow I will be going into my read through one more time mode. This second read through is important because I need to make certain that the fixes I added flow smoothly and don’t stand out like a badly filled pothole. It should read as one smooth manuscript rather than a manuscript showing repairs. Hence the read through.

If you are finished with your plot fixes, please join me in reading through your manuscript for a second time. If not, finish your fixes for today’s Task #111. For those doing neither…

Today’s writing exercise switches from cats to dogs. Think of a dog, any dog. Breed, size, age, any other details really are all up to you. But then set this dog in motion. It is not just its physical appearance you are describing but its movements, it’s attitude and how it responds to things. Are you in the yard playing with a hose on a hot day? Are you on a walk? Is it a dog who dislikes moving from the couch or one who is very active? Do they sense friends or enemies approaching (even if the enemy is a vacuum cleaner)? Show us this particular dog in action.

As always, Happy writing.
