Good morning everyone and happy Friday,. it is the last day of the read through and I am fairly certain I will finish mine. I suspect I will have to put in a little extra time to get through the final scene. I am always amazed at how many words my first run of just finished edits adds to the document. It ended up being a nearly 20k word bum to my total word count. A lot of that was conversations that needed to be expanded. I big chunk though was fixing the one big plot gap I found. I jumped from one scene to a different one while skipping the transition in the middle.
I suspect it was because I finished one scene at the end of a chapter when I was doing my initial writing and part of my brain thought it was there. Unfortunately the transitional scene also had a few important emotional markers so it was both story and plot needed in the gap. It is one of the reasons a first read through is so important. There are always things in my head that I could have sworn I put on the page yet somehow I didn’t. However, today is the final day of this particular read through (oh no, we aren’t done with this manuscript yet, but we have reached a milestone.) I do like the way this turned out though. There is a point where I hate all my manuscripts. It is nice when I start liking them again.
