The 2026 Novel Writing Challenge: Task #114

Morning everyone. We are still in our first week of the three week, pretend the manuscript we just completed doesn’t exist and let it rest phase. I know, not a catchy title, I’ll work on it. But to keep us occupied we are breaking out stories into mini-proto outlines. All the basic elements, but no real details. Feel free to work on a single idea, spreading out throughout the three week resting period. I am trying to do one per day, not only because I have a whole lot of writing prompts that sparked story ideas I want to get to, but I also don’t want to get too deeply pulled into a new project just yet. I need to think of other stories, but not focus on them. they are a distraction. I also want to have a collection of ideas ready for when we start sending our edited manuscripts to friends to read. At that time I will be looking for a project for the National Novel Writing Month and I want to have options before I prepare.

So whichever Option you choose, one story idea or many, Task #114 is simple. Allow your complete manuscript to rest and start breaking out a different story idea. The parts are below and you only need one sentence for each.
