The 2026 Novel Writing Challenge: Task #117

Good morning everyone. It is our second week of letting the manuscript rest. I tend to get a bit twitchy at this stage. I feel like it has rested enough. But the truth is, that it hasn’t. I know I need a bit more distance between what I wrote and actually being able to read what I wrote with a bit more objectivity. And so we begin the second (2 of 3 for those keeping score) week of writing mini outlines. The more we write, the more practice we get and the easier they are to do, like working out any muscle. And being able to spot the plot gaps is a very useful muscle to build. It doesn’t get you swimsuit ready but it is useful.

For today’s task you can either take one idea and break out all six of the points for the mini out line with a sentence or two so you get a mini outline per day, or you can split the points out throughout the week, depending on your time and the number of ideas you want to stockpile. As I have several years worth of writing prompts I keep meaning to break out, I will be doing one a day. I will also be using at least one for next year’s fifteen minute novel project as well as a later writing project, but more on that later. For now, to the sections Batman!
