Morning everyone. I have to admit that when I sat down to edit Chapter 6 I did have to go back and read over the first five chapters. I suppose the good thing is that I like the changes I have made. You may have noticed I am not attaching these chapters to the post. That is simply because I do them on paper at this stage. I have always found that I think differently with a pen in my hand than I do at a keyboard. I always have, and so I use that to my advantage. When I am typing away on a story and I come to an unexpected plot snafu I will often turn to a pen and a notebook to help me work things out.
(It is why I stock up on cheap notebooks at back to school sales. And then I feel guilty that I might be taking a child’s school supplies and then buy double so I can donate to the school supply donation drive that happens every year at the same time.It is a process)
With editing, I find my eyes see things when they are on paper that I simply don’t see on the computer screen. So I print out each chapter when I am getting ready to edit it and fill one of my fountain pens with brightly colored ink. I am going with Diamine Turquoise this go round. The blue of it is bright enough to stand out but isn’t red and thus feels less like I am yelling at myself for bad word choices.
So the edits are on paper. Then when I go back through the manuscript as a whole I will type in the changes as I am working on the full manuscript edit, which lets me decide if those edits really are ones I want to make. I know long explanation for a simple thing. Just thought I’d share. See you tomorrow for chapter 7.
