Writing Prompt: It would require a great deal of effort.

Morning all. ready for the morning writing prompt? Fabulous. Timers set and as always, don’t stop[p writing. Don’t edit or second guess yourself. This is all about just seeing where the sentence takes you. It doesn’t have to be fabulous writing, it can be complete and utter drivel. Perfection has no place here. Just don’t stop until the timer dings. Let the fifteen minutes begin.

You know. In a way, this piece sounds like it would pair well with what came out of yesterday’s prompt. With a few tweaks. Not what I was going for, but I will take it. Usually it means there is a story in the back of my head trying to find a way to get out.

Thursday, August 20th: It would require a great deal of effort.

It would require a good deal of effort.  He had no illusions about it being easy.  Still looking at the house, he knew it was perfect.  ‘Or will be,’ he corrected, unwilling to even let his thoughts escape the work that would lie ahead.

Despite the effort, the time and the money he would need to put into the house, the property was perfectly situated for his needs.  He was close enough to keep an eye on things without it seeming like an odd thing to do.  He was far enough away not to trigger any warnings.  No one would see him here.  With luck they would never know he was here.

Certainly not connect him to what was to come.

‘The work will help as well,’ he reminded himself as he turned away from the house and went to talk to the nervous looking realtor.  Accustomed to selling new build properties, he looked like he had been dragooned into a horror movie and suspected he would be the evil creature’s first kill.

‘Not even on my list,’ he thought as he put on a polite smile.

He knew that having the house to work on would serve two main purposes.  It would make him look occupied to the outside worked, certainly no one looking at the house would expect him to be taking on a second project of any description at the same time.  The second benefit would be that it would give him something to do in the long stretches between the things he had to to for his plan.

That had always been his biggest worry.  He was not concerned about achieving his goal.  He knew he’d get there in the end.  However, there were long stretches where he had to wait and watch the shape of the ripples as they moved through the pond after he threw his stones.  Having something to occupy him would help.

‘And I always think better with something to occupy my hands.’

It had been a trait of his since childhood.  His brain seemed to function better if his hands were actively employed.  He detested busy work and if given a task with no purpose then the only thing he could think about was the pointlessness of the task.  However, this wasn’t pointless.  He would repair the house so that he could have a decent place to stay while he worked, because the house had good bones and deserved a second chance and because when this was done, he could sell it at a higher price.  It served as cover and if he worked things well could provide a nice little monetary bonus.

;After all vengeance rarely pays.’ He let the edge of his smile tilt up.  ‘Not personal vengeance anyway.’

He found over the years many people were willing to pay him to enact their own vengeance.  It was why he had the leisure to finally focus on his own.  He left such thoughts behind as he followed Todd, the nervous real estate agent back to the office.  The price was quoted, he put in a slightly lower offer, not wanting to seem too eager but not wanting to be insulting.  The owner snapped it up immediately.

As they finished up the paperwork, allowing the money to be transferred, he guessed the owner had given up hope of selling the property.  He also thought that everyone believed he was buying the house for the property and would raze the house to the ground.  He supposed there were many who would do that.  He just wasn’t one of them. Not today.
