The 2026 Novel Writing Challenge: Task #158

Morning all. Ready for another task?

Task #158: Read through you manuscript as if it were a book. Mark things if you really feel you have to but try to just read it for flow and continuity. See how each chapter works with the others and at the end of your reading make notes. Did anything stand out to you as needing adjustment? Did a connection need to be stronger? Did a clue need to be tweaked so it fits just a little bit better? Did you gloss over an explanation a little too much? Try to think about your manuscript as a reader would.

And for those not editing…

Our Writing exercise for the day is to take the below object and describe it in great detail then give it meaning in the context of a story.

Today’s object: A bird

It could be a bird outside screaming about a disturbed nest, it could be a ceramic bird on the mantle, whatever you describe make it important to the story.

As always, happy writing.
