Good morning and welcome to our novel writing task of the day, we are chugging right along. Today’s task is an interesting one. We need to establish a time line.
If we are going to send a manuscript to a person to read we need to give them a time frame in which to read it. Some people read quickly, others more slowly. Some can read a little bit each night, others in one sitting while still others are going to take longer to read through a manuscript. So think about your plans and the readers you have on the list and come up with a time line. Once you’ve looked at your calender and had a good think about your readers and what is fair to ask of them complete the task.
Task #164: Create a time line by answering these questions…
1- When do I want to send out my manuscript to my readers?
2- When do I want my readers to get back to me with comments post reading?
There is the possibility that this is only the first of several readings you will send out as you refine and edit your manuscript so think about what you have planned (If you have plans) as well as what is reasonable to ask. Remember whether you are calling or texting or sending an e-mail for that first contact where you ask people to become readers, you need to let them know what you expect. For this task complete this sentence.
Hi, I have written a manuscript and I am looking for readers to give me feedback. I am looking to send the manuscript to those willing to read by _______________. I am hoping to have the first read through done by _______________. I really think that you would be an excellent reader for this story because __________________.If you are interested in reading and this timeline works for you, please let me know.
Obviously you can reword the sentence depending on who you are talking to and what medium you are using but I find having a fill in the blanks sentence lets me know exactly what information I need to include, even if the sentence is a little stilted.
