Morning all, Feeling a little draggy this morning and hoping the prompt will shake the cobwebs off by brain. So let’s just jump into it and see. Timers set and off we go.
Well I do feel a little less foggy I suppose.
Thursday, September 3rd: How long does it take to make a decision?
“How long does it take to make a decision?” Greg felt as though he had been sitting outside the headmaster’s office for hours. He was certain it hadn’t been for that long, at least when he looked at the clock and saw the movement of the hands. Still, how long could a judgement take?
He tried not to let his nerves show. He also tried not to look at Leo’s smirk. Jeff at least had the decency to look a little worried. Dan and Robert showed no signs of concern. He tried to ignore them all.
It was so unfair. He knew that whatever judgement was passed would not go in his favor. It wouldn’t matter that he was rarely involved in any trouble of any sort. His family didn’t donate the sort of money that put their names on buildings. It was why only Jeff looked a little concerned and the rest looked unbothered. They would not face the same sort of retribution as he would and they knew it. All their actions were cushioned by a lot of money.
The door opened. “Gregory Anderson,” was called through the door. He stood Leo’s smirk widened to a grin as he looked over. He then winked at Greg as he moved forward.
‘At least I am getting it over with first,’ he thought.
Greg went into the inner office. “Close the door, please and have a seat.”
Greg did as he was told and looked around the room as he walked. He had never been in the headmaster’s office. This was an entirely new experience for him and not one he relished. He walked to the seat and took it. The Headmaster looked at him.
“I should tell you that fighting is wrong,” the headmaster said. “And remind you that our Academy prises words over violence.”
“Yes sir,” Greg replied.
“Then consider yourself reminded.”
Greg blinked as this didn’t sound quite like he expected the headmaster’s conversation to begin. He nodded.
“That being said, we have just recently installed a security upgrade and the entire episode was recorded. I watched the video and saw the incident for myself. When attacked by four boys all larger than yourself, you reacted well.”
“Thank you, sir,” Greg replied hesitantly when the headmaster stopped talking.
“Was there a reason that you were a target?”
Greg blinked. “Not that I know of, sir.”
“So no long standing argument or recent dispute?”
“No, sir,” Greg shook his head.
The headmaster nodded. “It was the same with the others.”
“Yes, sir.”
The headmaster lifted an eyebrow. “You know of the others?”
“They like to brag, sir.”
“Yes, I am aware.” His voice was dry. “Normally you would be punished for your participation. However, we have just received a notification from your family. Your Uncle George has passed away and they want to collect you for the funeral. It will give you a couple of days off to think about the situation. I consider that sufficient given the circumstances.”
