Morning all it is time for our challenge task. It is a doozy.
Task #166: Start contacting people you want to ask about reading this draft.
I know, this is where it really starts to feel real. Deep breath though, you can do it. She remember to tell them why you think they would be a good reader for this draft, what your time line is like and a little bit about your story, try to keep it to a sentence or two.
Now this is far from the end of our manuscript’s journey. We will send it to readers, get their feedback and then sort through their feedback. Some of it will be more helpful than others, but it will get you going on your next edit and tell you the sort of people you need for your next read through. It is a process, Write, edit, send to readers, edit, send, and repeat until you are ready to call your manuscript done.
I won’t drive everyone insane with another round of editing posts. The trick is just to keep at it until you are satisfied.
There is however more than one way to write a completed manuscript. While we went the long way around, November is National Novel Writing Month (Nanowrimo) and each year people commit to writing a little every day to finish a 50k word manuscript in the month of November. I have done this in years past and I thought it might be fun to do it again. So next week we are going to start some planning tasks for Nanowrimo to get ready for the November writing.
Mine is the super UN-official prep-list. I am not associated with the organization that runs it, this is just what I do o get ready for it, broken into small tasks leading up to November. The links will take you to the official website and I hope you join for the official National Novel Writing Month as it is fun to actually write with a group and feel like you are part of something while engaging in a relatively solo activity. But next week I will start to post the getting ready for Nano. It is of course similar to the writing a novel tasks we’ve been doing all year, but it is condensed and there are some differences based on the speed with which the writing occurs. Hopefully it will be fun.
