The 2026 Novel Writing Challenge: Task #169

Good morning everyone. I hope you are still excited for your new story (and talking to readers about the manuscript you just finished) Today we have a fun task, we get to look at our main character…

Task #169 (Nano #3): Write a brief description for your main character.

While it is tempting to just physically describe how they look, Think of this less as a ‘describe him for a police sketch artist’ moment and more of a ‘Things you need to know about this person for this story.’ Concentrate on the details of how they become involved in this story and why. Maybe add some economic or social background notes. Think about the facets of this character that will be the most useful to you going forward. Then maybe add in hair color and talk about their favorite piece of clothing. specially if that piece of clothing becomes rlevent in your story.

Write as much as you like, or as little. This is for your reference going forward so think about what you are going to need to know to write this character most effectively.

I will be out tomorrow so there will be no new task for the morning. So once you have written this, set it aside for the rest of the day and then tomorrow look back through your idea, your description of the world and your character and see if anything needs to be added anywhere.

As always, happy writing.
