Morning all, we are chugging away on our set up for The National Novel Writing Month (Nanowrimo). It is the prep work needed to set up a novel so that we can write it in th thirty days of November. The goal is 50K in November which works out to about 1667 words a day. I like it as a contrast to the type of story set up we did for planning the novel we have been working on all year. Hopefully you are starting to get your manuscripts back from the first round of readers and are beginning your next round of edits. It is a process that will continue until your manuscript is finally as perfect as you can make it. And has been through several rounds of different readers. Because of the way Nanowrimo manuscripts are written while we may end up with a manuscript at the end of November it will be one that needs a lot of editing.
Still I like the contrast.
As a quick aside, for those of you wondering if we will be doing Nano and then editing the rest of the year, we will not. We will prep for Nanowrimo until November and then we will write for November. Although it will be quick and messy with no doubt gaping plot holes, I will be posting my Nano writings in the task sections (I will stop with the Task Numbers once November hits and just label them Nano day 1, 2 and so on until we get to Day 30.) You can see how the sausage is made, so to speak and exactly how much editing needs to be done after November is through. Then in December we ware going to switch to thirty day challenges (They will only be week days so it won’t line up with the month completely, especially with Holidays mixed in. So each 30 day challenge will take about six weeks). I wanted to start it in December so there wasn’t a perfect line up with January first. So many things get started on January first I thought it would be nice to have something in motion when New Year’s hits. Plus if you are doing the challenge and complete it early in January it feels like a win right off the bat. I find that completing something in January when many of my other goals are year long ones encourages me to keep going on my longer term goals. We will be continuing the thirty day challenges throughout 2027.
So that is the schedule. Shall we get to today’s task?
Task #181: (Nano # 15): Write a sentence or two describing what is covered in Chapter three of your upcoming manuscript adding bullet points and research items (links, folder locations, etc)
As always, happy writing.
