Morning all and happy Monday. I don’t know about you, but I could have used another day or two for this weekend. I think that is the time change coming though. I always feel draggy just before we hit daylight savings time. I dislike starting a workday in the dark. I feel the sun should at least be thinking about rising before I do. Plus this time of year always reminds me of daylight savings and I have never really liked it much. But that is a rant for another time. For now, the morning prompt. Timers set for fifteen minutes and off we go.
I kind of like this set up. Jenny is waiting only to be undermined by Mike. Not sure where it is going but I imagine it will be explosive. Even if it is just personally explosive for Jenny.
Monday, October 26th: Time was ticking away.
Time was ticking away. Jenny looked at the clock nervously. This report needed to be in by the end of the day. All of the parts she was responsible for were done. They had been done since Monday. It only required Mikes section to be complete. She was waiting for him.
She looked at the computer and main screen where her e-mail was open. Wondering if her e-mail had been refreshed or not, she closed her e-mail and then opened it back up again. It loaded. She had a reminder about an upcoming meeting pop up, but no e-mailed report section from Mike.
Jenny looked back down to the clock at the bottom of the screen.
She reached for the phone and picked up the in-house line. She dialed Mike’s extension. It rang. No one picked up before it went to voicemail. She hung up without leaving a message. Earlier in the week Mike accused her of pestering him. She didn’t want to pester, she just wanted the report done on time. She looked at the clock again.
Jenny checked the extension list and found Jake’s number. He had the office next to Mikes. She dia;ed him and Jake picked up on the second ring.
“Jake Montrose,” he said into the phone.
“Jake it’s Jenny do you know if Mike is around?”
“Mike,” he said. “No he took a half day today and left at lunch. Fishing weekend at the lake.”
“Right,” Jenny said. “That’s why he wasn’t answering. Thanks.”
“No sweat. “I’m about to take off myself but if there is something I can help you with…”
“Appreciate it but it will keep until Monday,” Jenny said. “Have a good weekend.”
“Same to you,” he said before hanging up.
Jenny looked at the time. Thought about Mike leaving early and then pulled up an e-mail. She attached her section of the report and typed the message.
“This is my part of the report,” she typed. She added in the official name of the report as well as it’s file number so that it could be attached to the correct company. “Michael Ambrose will be sending his sections to you separately.”
She then listed the sections that were Mikes and where in the report they needed to go. She looked over the e-mail and figured it was as professional as she could be and sent the e-mail. She decided the personal touch would help and then got up and walked over to her supervisor’s office.
Douglas Watts was typing when she walked in. He paused to hold up a finger for silence so Jenny waited in the doorway, silently. He finished typing, looked up and smiled.
“Sorry about that but I knew if I stopped I’d loose the thought and be unable to finish the sentence.”
“Not a problem,” Jenny said. “I just sent my sections of the report to you.”
“The report is complete?” He asked with surprise.
“Yes, I was waiting for Mike but he never sent his sections in so I thought he was sending them separately.”
Douglas frowned. “He told me you needed more time and that he was waiting for you.”
“No, I finished my section Monday and have been asking him for his for the last three days,” she replied. “I can send the e-mail chain of you would like?” she made it a question.
“I would like that,” he said. “Can you send it now while I look over the report.”
“Sure,” Jenny replied.
“Excellent, then once you do that, I suppose it will be time for you to clock out. Any questions I have can be held until Monday.”
