Morning all. I hope your week is a fabulous one. Mine is chugging along. I put off a lot of things last week when I wasn’t feeling tip top so I am making up for it this which makes it a busy one. But so far so good. For now, let’s jump into Wednesday with out morning prompt. Timers set for fifteen minutes and off we go.
I wasn’t expecting this but I like the idea of the greedy over confident person thinking they are the ones using the other person when they are merely a tool being used by that person. Not sure what the actual story is, but the idea is something I would like to play with even if this particular story line doesn;t go anywhere.
Wednesday, November 4th: Oh, you thought I was on your side.
“Oh, you thought I was on your side,” Trent laughed. He pulled his face into an expression of mock concern. “I am sorry to tell you, I am not. I am on my side, always.” His face cleared and he smiled at Julia. “So sorry to disappoint you my dear.”
He turned away laughing. Julia watched him go. Heard his laughter bouncing off the hard surfaces in the hallway. She took a deep breath and counted to ten. She heard the laugher taper off and the elevator doors ding open. She counted to ten again listening for the soft thud that would signal the closing of the doors. She thought she heard it and allowed herself one small tight smile before walking to her office door and closing it.
It was done.
Julia knew she would never be free from the family company unless she could convince someone that by taking her position from her they would win. What they would win she hadn’t been sure of but her cousin Trent had always craved power. She realized she didn’t have to identify what he would win by ousting her from the company. A few vague dropped hints and Trent picked up the ball on his own and ran with it.
She knew it would look suspicious if she didn’t fight for it and Trent decided to pretend to help her fight for her position. He took the information she gave him and used it to undermine him. Had she really trusted him or expected his help she suspected she would be devastated. Still his actions were easy to see. Pretending she didn’t see them was the hardest part of the plan.
It did disturb her a little that no one else seemed to notice what was going on. She hoped they did. She hoped that someone in the company was smart enough to see what Trent was doing and thought that if she wasn;t smart enough to see it then she should be replaced. It would be mercanry of them, but she would expect no less.
‘They also wouldn’t think much of me,’ Julia added to herself as she walked back to her desk.
That too was not a surprise. She was required to work at the family company, putting her skills to use for the good of them all. She was the only female born to the family in a while and the men of her family, didn’t value her as anything other than a workhorse.
It was one of many reasons she wanted to leave.
In truth her plans were in place long before she snagged Trent into helping her. All of her assets were separated from the family. She sold her shares back to the family. Her uncle thought she was doing so because she wanted to buy a fancy house or some such thing. He happily purchased the shares thinking her short sighted as the shares provided a good income beyond her salary. He made comments about how once she married and had children she wouldn’t want to work and would have the money from the shares without her salary.
It was a comment she ignored, just as she did all the other comments. As all of her brothers and male cousins married and had a veritable battalion of children between them, she didn;lt need to help secure any family legacy. She assumed that was why no one really pushed her towards any sort of marriage at any point. They just assumed marriage and kids would be in her future and let it go at that.
They always treated her working there as temporary.
Julia shook off the thought. The point was that she had broken all the legal ties with the company that she had. All she had was the position and from Trent’s visit that the call to sever her from it would come soon. Her desk was already empty and anything personal long since removed from the office. There would be no walk of corporate shame holding a box of belongings. She would simply slip out as though going to lunch and never returning. She sat down, excitement building as she waited for the phone to ring. Soon she would be done with them all.
