Writing Prompt: I have the footage.

Morning everyone. I hope your Monday was pretty decent. Mine was an acceptable Monday. Nothing untoward, and nothing grand. Somedays a nice normal week is what you need and honestly, that is what I would really like. Here’s hoping it holds. But on to the morning prompt. Timers set and off we go.

Somehow I think Cal filmed something he wasn’t supposed to see. and now all of them are going to be in trouble.

Tuesday, June 9th: I have the footage.

“I have the footage,” he proclaimed.  Heads swiveled in his direction.

“What sort of footage,” Cassie asked after a minute.

“Definitive proof of Bigfoot,” Cal explained.

“Bigfoot?” George asked.

“Yes,” Cal told them.  He held up his phone.  “I knew the sightings were real so I went out camping at the old campground off route 48 this weekend.”

“Isn’t that by the old miliary base?” Cassie asked after a moment of thought.

Cal’s smile widened.  “It is, can you think of a better place for him to hide?  Under the protection of the military.”

“You think the military didn’t know bigfoot was hanging around their base?” Dennis asked.

“Doesn’t argue much for national defense if Bigfoot can sneak up on them all the time,” George added.

“They knew about him,” Cal said sounding exasperated.  “Of course they knew about them, they befriended him.”

“As what a base mascot?” Cassie asked.

“No, clearly they wanted him for his interdimensional abilities.”

“Of course,” Cassie said.  “What was I thinking?”

“Well clearly you weren’t” Cal told her.  “Obviously generations of the Bigfoot have grown up with the base as protection and they have grown accustomed to going in the area. So even though the base has closed down, they still go.”

“Isn’t that area restricted?” Cassie asked.

“Yeah,” George replied.  “The base closed because the ground was unstable.  A section of it was built over underground caverns they didn’t know about or something.”

“How did they miss that?” Cassie asked.  “Don’t they have some machines that detect that before building?”

“I think the base was built before the machines,” Dennis said.  “Or the caves were filled with water and not detected.  I can’t remember the details.”

“Oh,” Cassie said nodding.

“That’s not the point,” Cal said.

“Right,” Cassie replied.  “Bigfoot was the point.”

“Exactly.  And I have footage.”

“Let’s see then,” Cassie said.  She held out her hand and Cal pulled it up handing her the phone.  The others crowded in and the video played.  The three of them watched while Cal grinned, triumphantly.  He paced the floor as they viewed and he wondered what the video would be worth.

When it was done, Cassie handed him the phone.  She didn’t have the awed look he expected. “Um, Cal,” she began slowly.  “Have you looked at the footage since you recorded it?”

“Of course,”  He lifted the phone and pressed play.  “UI mean I was in a hurry,” He watched the video again.  Clearly seeing bigfoot walk through the trees. He nodded.  “Yes, bigfoot.”  He looked at the other three. None seemed to agree with his assessment.

“In combat boots?” Cassie asked.

“Well obviously it …pillaged left-over supplies,” Cal said.

“Despite the foot size, the military left behind large boots to fit bigfoot?” Cassie asked.

“Along with all the other regulation gear?” Dennis asked.

“What regulation gear,” Cal asked.

A car pulled up outside and several men got out.  Dennis looked at them through the window.  “I don’t think that base is as abandoned as everyone thinks.”

Wednesday, June 10th: The color drained from his face.
