Writing Prompt: I will have to think about that.

Morning all. I hope you have shaken off the Monday blues and are now into your work week. I am doing pretty good. My closet is a mess. Because the heat was so intense my summer clothes are still out. But I started needing to get the cooler weather clothes out. Unfortunately I don’t entirely trust the cooler weather to stick around just yet and I have a few items of clothing that have seen their last summer. They survive the heat, but they gave their all to do it and this was the last summer they can be worn by anyone. So I need to sort before I can pack the summer clothing away. It is a process. Which I really need to start. I was going to wait until the weekend but I don’t think I will be able to hold out that long as the mess of it is already driving me a little crazy. So a little each night. I know my brain melt down and weather suspicion isn’t why you tuned in so let’s jump into the morning prompts and get this day started off right. Timers set for fifteen minutes and off we go.

I like the idea of a character like Jeremy who uses the phrase for a very specific reason, but I am not sure where this story is going I will probably keep parts of this for later character development but it doesn’t hook me the way some stories do. Still quite useful.

Tuesday, September 29th: I will have to think about that.

“I will have to think about that,” Jeremy said.  Anna nodded politely.

“Thank you,” she said.  Then as there was nothing more to say she turned and left, heading up to her room.  She knew what Jeremy meant when he said he had to think about something.  It meant he didn’t want to say an immediate no.  He wanted to at least look fair and balanced and not like someone who would offer rejection right away.

Anna knew from experience that his comment meant she could never really ask him again.  ‘Which was why he used it.’

If she asked again he would remind her that he needed time to think things through and that pressuring him would not help her cause.  If she left it and returned later, he would accuse her of badgering her and possibly claim that he was going to refuse simply because she couldn’t give him time to make up his mind and he wanted to teach her a lesson about undue pressure and respect.

Mostly when he used the thinking about it line he hoped that she would completely forget.

This time however was different.  This time she didn’t actually need permission.  She was asking for it as she wanted to keep things on an even keel.  But she was eighteen and could pay for it herself.  She thought about it and realized that with the crazy schedules that everyone was running and the fact that she was seeing less and less of everyone in the house, she could probably just go ahead and do it without anyone even noticing.

Anna closed her bedroom door and flopped out on the bed.  She clutched a pillow to her chest as she thought about it.  She hadn’t given Jeremy any start dates.  ‘Because he starts are variable,’ she thought.  She could start whenever she wanted.  The training would only be two hours a day.

‘If I started as soon as possible then if I still occasionally lurked looking like I wanted to ask but didn’t dare pressure him, then he might think that I still am waiting for an answer and not look.

‘He doesn’t really pay much attention to what I do,’ Anna thought.  Her step-brothers had interests that more aligned with his so they received he lions share of attention.  She was his wife’s daughter and therefore family, but he had as little contact with her as possible.  Anna knew that as long as she lived in the house then the family received an annuity from her father’s family and that once she left the house it would stop. She was pretty sure that was why she hadn’t been asked to move out as soon as she turned eighteen.

She had worked odd jobs under the table for as long as she could recall. Once she was old enough to work legally she got a job but sill worked under the table.  Her grandfather helped her get a bank account, being the adult listed on the forms.  It was kept safe and almost entirely electronic so that no one would realize how much she made or saved.

Once she turned eighteen her grandfather removed his name from the account so it was solely hers.  The training program would barely eat into her savings but it would give her a host more options and with a higher paying job she was certain she could more out sooner than her current plans allowed.
